India’s tea output up 40% in May on favourable weather

  • India's tea production in May 2025 saw a significant increase of 40% compared to the previous year, with North India up by 32% and South India up by 88%.
  • The total tea output in May 2025 was 37% higher than in April 2025, reaching 104.37 million kgs in North India and 26.23 million kgs in South India.
  • On a year-to-date basis (Jan-May 2025), India's tea production was 26% higher than the same period in 2024, totaling 336.22 million kgs.
  • While the improved production in South India in May was attributed to favorable weather conditions, June experienced lower output due to unfavorable weather affecting tea-growing regions.
