India's tea production in May 2025 saw a significant increase of 40% compared to the previous year, with North India up by 32% and South India up by 88%.
The total tea output in May 2025 was 37% higher than in April 2025, reaching 104.37 million kgs in North India and 26.23 million kgs in South India.
On a year-to-date basis (Jan-May 2025), India's tea production was 26% higher than the same period in 2024, totaling 336.22 million kgs.
While the improved production in South India in May was attributed to favorable weather conditions, June experienced lower output due to unfavorable weather affecting tea-growing regions.
