Instagram Reels has launched a “With friends” feature that shows you a video feed that your friends have liked.
The feature is hoping to assist users in bonding over videos; although, it could get weird quickly.
The new feature accelerates a common practice by DMing Reels to friends you think they might like.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, has said: “We want Instagram to not only be a place where you consume entertaining content, but one where you connect over that content with friends.”
The new Reels feature will work differently from the old ‘Following’ tab and only shows likes from mutual friends, not from celebrities or other creators.
In addition, it will only show Reels videos eligible for recommendation, meaning they must come from public accounts in good standing.
Ultimately, the “With friends” feature is algorithmic, where content served is based on what Instagram thinks you will like.
The feature is hoping to minimize embarrassment and awkward moments.
While it is still possible to be caught by your friends, this new feature will show likes from mutual friends and eligible videos only.
As always, it is crucial to stay vigilant and safe on social media and trust no one.
