Elon Musk, an original co-founder of OpenAI, tried to prevent the organization from having a close relationship with Microsoft in a cloud computing deal.
Musk expressed his disappointment in an email thread in 2016, stating that the proposed deal would make OpenAI look like 'Microsoft's marketing bitch'.
Eventually, Microsoft agreed to a revised proposal without any marketing obligations, leading Musk to be fine with the agreement.
The emails were disclosed as part of a lawsuit where Musk accuses Altman, OpenAI, and now Microsoft of attempting to monopolize the generative artificial intelligence market.
