Introducing Express brokers for Amazon MSK to deliver high throughput and faster scaling for your Kafka clusters
- Amazon has announced the general availability of Express brokers, a new broker type for Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK) that offers improved compute and storage elasticity for Kafka applications when using Amazon MSK provisioned clusters.
- Express brokers deliver 3x more throughout per-broker, scaling up 20 times faster than standard brokers running Apache Kafka and providing the same low latency performance that Amazon MSK customers expect.
- Express brokers offer hands-free storage management through unlimited storage without preprovisioning, preserving disk space and simplifying cluster management while eliminating potential failure sources.
- Express brokers throughput offers up to 3x throughput per broker which allows for smaller clusters for the same workload.
- Express brokers use opinionated settings and resource isolation, enabling m7g.16xl size instances to manage up to 500 MBps ingress without compromising performance or availability during cluster events.
- Express brokers reduce data movement during scaling, making them up to 20 times faster than standard brokers, allowing for a more reliable cluster resizing while eliminating the need for over-provisioning.
- Expanding clusters is simpler with Express brokers, it eliminates the need for continuous monitoring when right-sizing clusters and provides higher resilience with faster recovery from transient failures.
- Express brokers are the best choice for all Kafka workloads as they lower costs, provide higher resiliency, and lower operational overhead.
- Amazon MSK clients can choose from MSK provisioned and MSK serverless clusters depending on their preferences, with Express brokers being pre-configured with Kafka best practices by default and supporting Kafka APIs.
