iOS 26 introduces a new Smart Display Zoom setting to CarPlay, adjusting the user interface elements to better fit various dashboard screen sizes.
The setting allows for resizing CarPlay to match the shape and size of the vehicle's screen, showing an extra row of app icons when activated.
Olivia Hess, a CarPlay software engineer, highlighted the Smart Display Zoom feature during a WWDC 2025 video for developers.
This setting can be configured within the CarPlay Settings and is available on iOS 26, currently in developer beta.
A public beta for iOS 26 will be released next month, with the official update expected in September for iPhone 11 and newer models.
iOS 26 also brings additional features to CarPlay, such as a Liquid Glass design, Live Activities on the Dashboard screen, new widgets screen, Tapbacks, pinned conversations in Messages app, multi-touch support in mapping apps, and video playback via AirPlay while parked.
