iOS and iPadOS 18.1: Everything New Besides Apple Intelligence
- Apple has released iOS and iPad OS 18.1, which brings many features besides the Apple Intelligence updates.Some of the notable updates include customizable and efficient Control Center, Camera app with dedicated Spatial mode, hearing health features for the AirPods Pro users, Arial Photo search and more.Change the primary email address associated with Apple Account, new names for the Up Next Queue in Apple TV App, updated design of the emoji keyboard, Notification badges on the Lock Screen, support for wired Xbox controllers, Game Center invitation from Contacts App, and the ability to share songs from Apple Music to TikTok.Apple has made it easier to reset Control Centre to its default layout and has added new connectivity controls that can be individually added from the gallery and placed in your custom Control Center layout.
- Apple has also included a new Shortcuts action to open, close, or toggle Control Center, so that it is possible to reassign one of your two Lock Screen controls to open Control Center without having to reach the top of the screen.
- Camera app comes with a new Spatial mode, which allows you to shoot spatial photos and videos, and owners of iPhone 16 or 16 Pro can now use the Camera Control to switch between the front- and rear-facing cameras.
- The new hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2, includes the ability for users to take a hearing test, use the AirPods as over-the-counter hearing aids, and benefit from a new on-by-default hearing protection mode that will automatically lower loud environmental noise.
- Apple users can now change the primary email address associated with their Apple Account, add an email address and choose a new primary email for their Apple Account, head to Settings and tap their name at the top of the screen.
- The TV app's Up Next queue is now known as "Continue Watching," and to manually add a movie or TV show to this queue, select the "Add to Watchlist" option.
- Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge went into detail on Threads about the design changes in iOS 18.1 to the emoji keyboard, which includes a larger grid, sections for Memoji and custom stickers and redesigned glyphs on the navigation strip.
- Apple has enabled RCS support in the Messages app in iOS 18.1 and is expanding it to allow businesses to communicate with their customers over RCS.
- Xbox controllers can now be used with a wire in iOS and iPadOS 18.1 (as well as macOS Sequoia 15.1), just like any other supported controller.
- Users can send a Game Center invitation directly from the Contacts app in iOS and iPadOS 18.1.
- Share a song from the Apple Music app to TikTok, Instagram, trip or any location via the share sheet in iOS and iPadOS 18.1.
