Iran's government has voted to lift restrictions on WhatsApp and Google Play, unblocking access to these foreign-owned applications.
The Supreme Cyberspace Council unanimously voted to lift the limitations on popular foreign platforms during a meeting on Dec. 24.
The services are expected to be unblocked, although there are reports that they are still inaccessible.
The council also emphasized the importance of rule-of-law governance in cyberspace and aims to support domestic platforms as alternatives to foreign applications.
