The M4 MacBook Pro leaks have been dominating the tech headlines for weeks, with images and unboxing videos hitting the internet showing the new device the best it has been detailed over the weeks.
One interesting aspect to note is that in all of these leaks, the Mac Pro packaging had the same gray and black wallpaper that Apple has already used for its line of M3 MacBook Pros.
While it might seem like a small detail, Apple generally uses new background and wallpaper images for the launch of each new MacBook Pro, so finding an old wallpaper on the supposedly new laptops raised questions about the legitimacy of the leaks.
However, this might not necessarily be the case, but rather a hint pointing towards the fact that these leaks might be genuine and that the highly anticipated October Apple event might not even happen.
On the other hand, while leaks about the laptop upgrades seem convincing enough to be authentic, the wallpaper on the MacBook Pro boxes seemed to be a sticking point for many and made the whole process seem fake.
Reusing the previous wallpaper on the previous MacBook Pros added fuel to the debate on whether the leaks were indeed authentic or whether the online retailers were simply using old MacBook boxes to stir the pot.
With several reports indicating that there will possibly be no event in October, a highly unusual move by Apple, the leaks appear less damning when taken in conjunction with that possibility.
It is rare for Apple to break with convention and host a MacBook event that breaks its traditional format of hosting a design show in the fall and a new iPhone event in September.
If Apple is not hosting an October event, then revealing the MacBook Pro via a press launch would be less impactful and would garner less audience and media coverage.
The new MacBook Pro is scheduled to be launched on November 1, which could mean that if there is supposed to be an October event, it's running out of time to announce it.
