Italy has started issuing fines to thousands of individuals who subscribed to pirate IPTV services, marking a significant escalation in the fight against illegal streaming.
The fines are being imposed under the anti-piracy legislation passed in 2023, allowing penalties of up to €5,000 for repeat offenders, with initial penalties starting at €154.
The crackdown is not only targeting the operators of illegal services but also the consumers, representing a new chapter in combatting digital piracy in Italy.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to tackle digital piracy, particularly focusing on the illegal streaming of football matches, which has been a significant concern for Italy's sports industry.
