Italy has launched an investigation into privacy concerns surrounding DeepSeek, a chatbot developed by a Chinese startup.
The Italian data watchdog authority, known as the Garante, has formally requested the probe, citing potential risks to the personal data of millions of people.
The complaint follows a report by Euroconsumers, which found multiple violations of European and national data protection regulations in how DeepSeek handles user data.
This is not the first time Italy has taken action against AI chatbots for privacy violations, with a previous ban on ChatGPT in 2023.
