Italy and the White House have expressed a desire for a 'non-discriminatory' environment for digital services taxation, potentially signaling Italy may abandon its levy on sales from large tech firms.
The joint statement came following meetings between Italy President Giorgia Meloni and US President Donald Trump.
Italy currently applies a 3% revenue levy on internet transactions for digital companies with sales of at least €750 million.
The joint statement also stressed the importance of US investments in AI and cloud infrastructure in Italy, supporting the country as a regional data hub for the Mediterranean and North Africa.
