Microsoft is scrapping developer onboarding fees for the Microsoft Store on Windows, allowing individual developers to publish apps for free starting June 2025.
Previously, developers had to pay around $19 for registration to publish apps on the Microsoft Store.
This move follows Apple facing legal pressure to reduce its App Store fees, although Microsoft will continue to charge a 12% fee for games and a 15% fee for apps that use its commerce platform.
Developers using their own commerce system on the Microsoft Store can keep 100% of the revenue for non-gaming apps.
