It’s official — Intel now holds the Windows battery life crown

  • Intel has taken the lead in battery life for Windows laptops with its Lunar Lake chipset.
  • New chipsets, including Qualcomm's Snapdragon X, AMD's Ryzen AI 300, and Intel's Lunar Lake, are expected to improve Windows' performance and battery life.
  • While AMD is currently ranked first in performance among the chipsets tested, both Qualcomm and Intel are focused on achieving maximum efficiency.
  • In terms of CPU performance, none of the integrated GPUs in these chipsets are meaningful upgrades over their predecessors. Discrete GPUs such as Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 will still dominate the gaming and creator laptop markets.
  • Intel's Lunar Lake is the most direct replacement for the firm's U-series Meteor Lake chipsets that run at 15 watts, but the Lunar Lake 8-core chipsets aren't as fast as Intel's Meteor Lake H-series chips that run at 28 watts.
  • Apple's M3 chipset remains the leader in performance-efficiency but Intel's Lunar Lake outperforms Qualcomm's Snapdragon X in terms of battery life.
  • According to early test results, the Asus Zenbook S 14 with the Intel Core Ultra 7 offers the best overall battery life performance.
  • However, technology experts have advised the data is not the entire story, and more testing is needed as companies roll-out on new chips.
  • For now, Intel has taken the lead in battery life for Windows laptops with its Lunar Lake chipset as Windows laptops have never been better.
  • Continued data gathering through further chipset testing and rollouts will be required to fully assess the impact of new chips.
