I've spent the last 2 weeks speaking to AI – here are my 3 biggest takeaways

  • Chatbots that you can talk to using your voice are here.
  • While we’ve made huge progress towards a human-like AI companion, there’s still a long way to go.
  • The ability to interrupt AIs successfully or their ability to interrupt you when you don't want them to is a significant problem.
  • There's not enough local information that AI provides, which is a huge drawback when it comes to delivering relevant information.
  • For voice AI to be useful, it needs to know a lot of information about you and access to important apps like your inbox and your calendar.
  • Right now the best use of Voice AI is for asking questions, providing motivation, or coming up with new ideas.
  • ChatGPT has the best interface, where the swirling orb reacts appropriately to whatever you say.
  • Gemini Live has a mainly dark screen, leading to a somewhat soulless experience.
  • AI's capability to have a conversation about research topics is impressive but to perform at the level we'd like it to requires a lot more integration with our smartphones.
  • The release date for Apple Intelligence is awaited, and we won't get the full reliable Siri until next year.
