Johor state government introduces guidelines and standard operating procedures for school bus and van driver management following the death of a five-year-old left behind in a school van.
The guidelines cover various aspects including driver management, vehicle inspection, children's safety monitoring, attendance tracking, and emergency protocols. School vans carrying more than 10 children must have an assistant for ensuring children's safety.
Licensed school bus and van drivers are required to undergo special training on child safety, road safety, and emergency procedures. They also need to undergo mental and physical assessments.
The incident occurred on April 30 when a five-year-old was found unconscious in a school van in Taman Bukit Indah, having been left behind after other students were dropped off. The SOP for school vans has been implemented with enforcement to follow.
