<ul><li>Julie Shah, an MIT alumna and professor, has been appointed as the new head of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AeroAstro), effective May 1.</li><li>Shah is known for her contributions in the field of robotics and AI, particularly in the future of work, and her work on the social, ethical, and economic implications of AI and computing.</li><li>She is currently the director of the Interactive Robotics Group in MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) and MIT’s Industrial Performance Center.</li><li>Shah's research focuses on designing collaborative robot teammates to enhance human capabilities and has applications in manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and defense.</li></ul>
