Volkswagen is forging ahead with the transition to electric vehicles and founded battery company PowerCo in 2022.
Andreas Eckle, CIO of PowerCo, said production standards will be the same at all locations.
The blueprint factory in Salzgitter, Germany, will serve as the model for gigafactories in Valencia, Spain and St. Thomas, Canada.
The factories shall create battery cells to a total volume of up to 200 GWh.
PowerCo has to make sure the complete supply chain is committed to sustainability.
PowerCo was started two years ago and 1,500 people were recruited to set up an IT landscape and develop various areas of the company.
Implementing an SAP S/4HANA Cloud system and realizing three go-lives helped the company establish standard processes.
PowerCo CIO Andreas Eckle said the SAP EC-powered cloud service helped significantly to support recruiting, onboarding and workforce management.
The final version of logistics management was delivered in June, 2023, and other systems processes are planned for integration soon.
The current cloud ERP system serves as a foundation while also supporting future business models like recycling of battery cells and energy storage systems.
