A former chief people officer was awarded nearly $3.3 million after a jury found she was retaliated against for speaking up about pay bias and wage violations.
The CPO, a lawyer with over 20 years of employment law experience, was hired to shape the firm's culture but faced issues when the founder offered higher pay to a male applicant than a female employee in the same role.
After highlighting the pay disparity, the CPO was accused of disloyalty, demoted, and eventually fired. She sued, alleging violations of Title VII, Equal Pay Act, and Fair Labor Standards Act.
The jury ruled in favor of the CPO, finding the employer had retaliated against her and awarded back pay, compensatory, and punitive damages. Both Reaves Law Firm and the plaintiff did not comment on the matter.
