Kei vehicles, the smallest class of vehicle in Japan, will soon be legal on Colorado roads as Governor Jared Polis signed HB25-1281 into law.
The regulations in Japan limit Kei vehicles to engine sizes under 660cc, length under 11.2 feet, width under 4.9 feet, and height under 6.6 feet, with horsepower typically under 63.
The new law in Colorado allows for titling, registration, and use of Kei vehicles in the state, with a speed limit restriction of 55 mph on applicable roads and a different emissions testing method.
Presently, 29 states in the US allow Kei vehicles on public roads, with varying restrictions and regulations in place, emphasizing the need for research before purchasing such vehicles.
