Kerala becomes 1st state to use robotic scavengers to clean manholes

  • The Kerala government has launched a robotic scavenger called 'Bandicoot' to clean sewages in Guruvayur, a temple town in the state.
  • According to Kerala's Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, this initiative makes Kerala the first state in India to use robotic scavengers to clean manholes.
  • The robot, which has been developed by Thiruvananthapuram-based company Genrobotics, is expected to reduce the risk of manual scavenging and improve the efficiency of sewage cleaning.
