Lamborghini has decided to postpone the launch of a new electric version of the Urus SUV and will instead opt for a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the next generation model.
CEO Stephan Winkelman cited regulatory uncertainty for the delay and emphasized the importance of retaining a combustion engine option for customers.
The upcoming Urus will feature a plug-in hybrid system, although specific powertrain details were not disclosed. The current Urus SE already boasts 789 horsepower from a combination of V-8 engine and electric motor.
The next-generation Urus is scheduled to launch in 2029, with the electric variant possibly delayed until 2035. Lamborghini's decision reflects the company's adaptation to changing regulatory environments and exploration of alternative options like synthetic fuels.
