A leaked internal memo has revealed that Meta has big plans for Reality Labs in 2025.
Meta is reportedly set to launch six AI wearables this year, according to the memo.
The 2025 launch list could include the third-gen Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses teased by Mark Zuckerberg, Oakley versions of existing second-gen AI smart glasses, a possible smartwatch/wristband, and camera-equipped earbuds.
Meta’s CEO Zuckerberg recently said 2025 will be a defining year for its smart glasses plans.
The recently leaked memo reflects that plans for 2025 are also centered on new mixed reality experiences.
The company aims to help publish major release mixed-reality games closer in scale and quality to fully realised VR titles.
Horizon Worlds, Meta's metaverse platform for social VR gaming, could receive more emphasis on its mobile port to reach new, un-goggled audiences.
Meta’s Reality Labs division posted $1.08bn in revenue revenue in Q3 2021, whilst racking up its largest-ever loss since 2020, so this year could potentially determine the true widespread commercial viability of its extended reality and AI development.
There is a sense of urgency that 2025 will define whether Meta's work in XR and AI will be viewed as legendary or a misadventure.
It is suggested that both aggressive publishing strategies and the aforementioned mixed-reality games could be crucial for turning things around for Reality Labs.
