NaijaFarmHand is an AI farming assistant for Nigerian farmers, built using Google's AI Development Kit (ADK) and focused on providing localized farming information.
It offers tools for crops like maize, cassava, yam, groundnut, and guinea corn, as well as livestock such as broiler and layer chickens.
Tools include WeatherTool for local weather conditions, FarmPlannerTool for starting checklists, TimingAdvisorTool for seasonal advice, and google_search_grounding for research.
The project uses a language model from Google as the core intelligence and specific instructions to define the agent's job and tools.
Through the Google ADK framework, NaijaFarmHand manages conversations, connects tools, and guides users in accessing information effectively.
NaijaFarmHand aims to make basic farming information accessible, focus on Nigerian context, integrate practical tools, and provide a learning experience in AI development.
While a prototype, NaijaFarmHand showcases AI's potential to support agriculture and help individuals in Nigeria's farming journey, encouraging expert advice for crucial decisions.
This project was completed as part of the 5-Day Gen AI Intensive course by Google, highlighting the power of AI in solving localized problems.
