Stop Killing Games, a movement challenging the legality of publishers destroying video games they have sold, reached one million signees on its European Citizens' Initiative petition.
Video Games Europe, an EU lobbying association, opposes the movement, stating that discontinuing online services must be an option when commercial viability is at stake.
The association argues that private servers may not be a feasible alternative and that some games are designed to be online-only, making the petition's proposals potentially cost-prohibitive for developers.
Video Games Europe expressed willingness to engage with policy makers and those leading the initiative in the future to discuss their stance further.
