Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla plans to introduce a new digital attendance system for MPs during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Until the new system is implemented, MPs will still use the current method of signing a register outside the chamber, but digital attendance will eventually replace this.
The new system aims to save time by reducing crowded lobbies and preventing MPs from marking attendance and leaving without participating in House proceedings.
Ministers and the Leader of Opposition are exempt from marking attendance, but other members need to do so to receive daily allowances during sessions.
