Lyten, a California-based battery manufacturer, has launched an initiative to produce next-generation lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries for drones to support U.S. national security and defense needs.
The company aims to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains and enhance the performance of unmanned systems by providing locally sourced and manufactured lightweight batteries in the United States.
Lyten's Li-S batteries are demonstrated to offer greater endurance, payload capacity, and operational range, designed without materials sourced from Chinese supply chains to comply with the National Defense Authorization Act.
The company's battery technology, beyond drones, has potential applications in satellites, EVs, and micromobility, with plans to showcase the technology aboard the International Space Station in 2025.
