A majority of 28 states want an increase in tax revenue distribution between the Centre and states to 50 percent, according to Finance Commission chairman Arvind Panagariya.
States currently receive 41 percent of tax revenue while the remaining goes to the Centre.
More than 22 states have recommended the share to be raised to 50 percent, including Uttar Pradesh.
The 16th Finance Commission of India is tasked with recommending tax revenue distribution and is expected to submit its report by October 31, 2025.
