Mala Gaonkar's SurgoCap Partners began trading on Tuesday with $1.8 billion in assets. This was the the largest debut of a woman-led hedge fund in the industry’s history.
According to sources, SurgoCap will invest using data science to improve financials, industrials, health care, and corporate data.
The launch follows Divya Nettimi's Avala Global's debut in October, which began with more than $1 billion in committed cash.
After establishing themselves at bigger businesses, the two women attracted significant capital. Gaonkar, 53, worked at Lone Pine Capital for 23 years, while Nettimi spent seven years at Viking Global Investors.
