A joint venture agreement has been signed between Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) and the China Communications Construction ECRL (CCCECRL) for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) in Malaysia.
Both parties will hold equal stakes and responsibility for operational risks, with Malaysia taking 80% of operational profits and China taking 20%.
Malaysia Rail Link will retain full ownership of all ECRL assets, and 80% of the operational and maintenance workforce will be sourced domestically.
The ECRL is approximately 76.06% complete, with the first electric multiple unit (EMU) train set expected to arrive by the end of 2025.
