Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has taken steps to introduce India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the country.
The introduction of UPI is expected to bring significant benefits to the Maldivian economy, including increased financial inclusion and improved efficiency in financial transactions.
A consortium has been set up and TradeNet Maldives Corporation Limited has been appointed as its leading agency.
The agreement to introduce UPI was signed during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit to Maldives in August.
