Man re-enacts Blues Brothers scene with LandCruiser in Melbourne shopping centre

  • A 27-year-old man from East Melbourne was arrested for driving a stolen Toyota LandCruiser through Melbourne's Northland shopping centre while trying to evade police.
  • The man allegedly crashed through the shopping centre after security notified police about the stolen vehicle.
  • Despite attempts by the police to block him in, the driver managed to evade them by driving through the shopping centre.
  • Footage captured by onlookers showed shoppers running to safety as the vehicle sped through the mall. One person was treated for shock.
  • The stolen vehicle was later found dumped in Northcote by the police.
  • Victoria Police revealed that the LandCruiser was stolen on June 2 from an address in Ivanhoe East using an electronic key reprogramming tool.
  • The suspect was apprehended at 8:30 a.m. the next day, and the reprogramming tool was seized.
  • Northland Shopping Centre has resumed normal operations following the incident.
