Five female entrepreneurs have told Business Insider that many small business owners in the US are unaware of Vice President Kamala Harris' proposal to increase the small business tax deduction 10-fold, from $5,000 to $50,000.
Harris has made small businesses a focal point of her economic plan and has proposed expanding the small business tax deduction from $5,000 to $50,000.
Experts claim there is potential for bipartisan support for the tax proposal.
Most of the entrepreneurs interviewed say they were unaware of the proposal and question why key advocacy groups for small businesses haven't shared the proposal more broadly.
Rhett Buttle, co-executive director of the Small Business Roundtable, has previously said that the expanded deduction would be helpful for women and people of colour, who traditionally find it harder to access capital.
The women interviewed agree that small business advocacy groups and financial institutions should promote the tax proposal to their clients.
Should Harris win the election, Congress would need to pass legislation to make her expanded tax deduction idea a reality.
Tax and small business experts believe that local entrepreneurship is an area of potential bipartisan agreement.
Harris is competing to be vice president in an election taking place on November 3.
