Maserati has scrapped its plans to launch an electric flagship model, the MC20 Folgore, due to insufficient demand in the super sports car market for a battery electric vehicle.
The company had aimed to offer at least one battery-powered variant of each model by the middle of the decade but has now canceled the electric version of its twin-turbo V6 sports car.
Maserati's decision to halt the MC20 Folgore project comes at a time when many car manufacturers are facing challenges in the EV market, with Aston Martin and Lamborghini also delaying their electric models.
In 2020, Maserati's global sales decreased by 57%, selling approximately 11,300 vehicles, while its parent company, Stellantis, remains committed to the brand's future.
