Massively Overpowered has presented the MMO with the stormiest future award, and the winner this year is the Cryptic MMORPGs: Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Champions Online.
These games have been core MMORPGs for years and years, absolute rocks in the genre.
However, the de facto dissolution of Cryptic and the Embracer’s porting of its games over to a European studio that had to hire a lot of new people, leaves the future of the games uncertain.
Though Amazon’s New World is featuring some cracks, its future is very uncertain as it received mixed reviews from its loyal fans.
The Cryptic games continued to wobble and are thought to not be mistreated or sunsetted in the coming months.
Other online games like Project Gorgon, Embers Adrift, and EVE Frontier are also in the list of games with a questionable future.
As per the reader’s poll, Cryptic MMOs, New World, Ashes of Creation, Chronicles of Elyria, and Star Citizen are among the top MMO games or studios, which have a stormy future heading into 2024.
The award has expanded beyond just individual games to studios and ideas as well as fringe and unlaunched games.
The award represents something that writers are worried about for one reason or another: maybe they think the game or studios will sunset or struggle or simply fail to live up to insane hype.
Reader’s poll options include all MMOs nominated plus a few others that Massively OVerpowered thought should be included.
