The Bank of England has fined Mastercard-owned Vocalink $16.2 million for inadequate risk management.
The penalty is due to Vocalink's failure to comply with governance weaknesses identified by the central bank in 2022, marking the first time the Bank of England has penalized a financial market infrastructure company.
Vocalink was able to reduce the fine by cooperating with the investigation, admitting the compliance failure early, and settling the matter.
Despite historic internal control issues, Vocalink assures that there was no impact on the service delivered to U.K. consumers and businesses.
