Mazda is abandoning the CHAdeMO port on its EVs in Japan starting from 2027 and will adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) instead.
The move will allow Mazda's EVs to charge at Tesla Superchargers in Japan, as Tesla Superchargers use the NACS connector.
Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) was the first Japanese carmaker to announce the adoption of NACS for its EVs in Japan, creating a potential domino effect in the industry to shift away from CHAdeMO.
The switch to NACS in Japan is expected to impact South Korea, which uses the US' CCS1 connector, as carmakers globally are gradually transitioning to NACS, with the aim to connect to Tesla's Supercharger network.
