AERA has stated that airport operators cannot force private jet owners to avail meet and greet services and lounge access for securing slots at airports.
The regulator mentioned that such services should be optional and non-essential, and imposing them as a pre-condition for flight movements is unauthorized and unethical.
Although the AERA notice did not specify any particular airport, sources indicate that Adani group-run airports were charging this fee on charter flights.
The Business Aircraft Operators Association welcomed AERA's notice as a step to curb unjustified non-aeronautical charges by certain airport operators and emphasized that non-aeronautical services should not be made a precondition for essential aeronautical services.
