Meta has announced the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses, priced at $499 and available for preorder starting July 11th.
Other Oakley models with Meta's technology will be available starting at $399 later in the summer.
The Oakley smart glasses feature a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and microphones integrated into the frame.
Once paired with a phone, the glasses can be used for various functions like listening to music, making calls, and interacting with Meta AI.
Meta AI can utilize the onboard camera and microphones to answer questions, provide translations, and identify objects.
Designed for athletes, the Oakley glasses have an IPX4 water resistance rating and offer 8 hours of battery life.
They come with a charging case that can extend usage up to 48 hours.
The built-in camera can now shoot in 3K video, enhancing the visual capabilities of the smart glasses.
The new lineup includes five Oakley frame and lens combinations, compatible with prescriptions for an additional cost.
The glasses will be available in various countries, including the US, Canada, UK, France, and Germany.
Meta's partnership with EssilorLuxottica aims to sell 10 million smart glasses annually by 2026, with the Meta Ray-Bans having sold over two million pairs already.
Alex Himel, Meta's head of wearables, hinted at more innovations to come, stating, 'There's more to come.'
