Meta, headed by Mark Zuckerberg, has held talks to potentially acquire AI startups including Safe Superintelligence, Thinking Machines Lab, and Perplexity, showcasing Zuckerberg's active pursuit in the AI industry.
The discussions with Safe Superintelligence (SSI), Thinking Machines Lab, and Perplexity did not progress to formal offers due to disagreements over deal prices and strategic visions.
Mark Zuckerberg is in the process of assembling a team for Meta's AI division, with SSI's Daniel Gross and former Github CEO Nat Friedman expected to co-lead the Meta AI assistant under the supervision of Alexandr Wang.
Alexandr Wang, former Scale CEO recently hired by Zuckerberg for over $14 billion, is instrumental in building the new AI team at Meta.
Wang has been actively meeting with top Meta executives and continues to recruit for the upcoming AI team, which is anticipated to be revealed in the following week.
