Meta is in advanced talks to hire prominent AI investors Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross to lead its artificial intelligence efforts.
Meta is discussing a partial buyout of its venture capital fund, NFDG, which could cost over $1 billion.
Daniel Gross, co-founder of Safe Superintelligence (SSI), is expected to leave SSI to join Meta and focus on AI products. Nat Friedman's role is anticipated to be broader.
Both Friedman and Gross have experience in leading companies and have been working closely with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Friedman, former CEO of GitHub, is now an investor and advisor, with a venture fund NFDG. He has been advising Meta on its AI strategy since 2014.
Meta is negotiating to purchase a substantial portion of NFDG’s holdings, gaining minority stakes in AI startups without control or access to sensitive information.
Meta is aggressively seeking top AI talent, offering substantial signing bonuses. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman mentioned Meta's $100 million signing bonuses in a recent podcast.
