Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has settled a Federal Court case in Australia over the Cambridge Analytica scandal for $50 million.
This settlement is significantly lower than the $725 million paid by Meta in the US settlement.
The compensation program will offer payments to Australian Facebook users who installed the This is Your Digital Life app or were friends with someone who did between November 2, 2013, and December 17, 2015.
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner anticipates that the payment program will begin in the second quarter of 2025.
