Facebook's parent company, Meta, is planning to lay over 40,000km of fiber optic cables under the sea to handle its social media platforms and AI investments.
The estimated budget for the project is starting at $2 billion but could potentially reach over $10 billion.
The cable is expected to serve India and will have a circuitous route from the US East Coast to South Africa to India before returning to the US West Coast via Australia.
The cable will avoid potential geopolitical risk areas such as the Red Sea, the South China Sea, and Egypt.
