Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, is set to begin company-wide layoffs on Wednesday as part of a restructuring effort aimed at greater efficiency.
The layoffs will impact Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs, which houses the company's virtual reality efforts and Quest hardware.
The move is part of a cost-cutting push that will eventually lead to 10,000 job cuts at the company, as announced by founder Mark Zuckerberg in March. A further round of cuts is expected in May.
The company will ask all North America employees who can work from home to do so on Wednesday, in order to have time to process the news. The company has declined to comment on the matter.
