Meta, the parent of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has been fined €797.72 million by the European Commission.
The fine is for breaching EU antitrust rules by tying its online classified ads service, Facebook Marketplace, to Facebook, creating unfair trading conditions.
Meta plans to appeal the ruling and argues that it ignores the realities of the European market for online classified listing services.
This is the latest in a series of fines faced by Meta in Europe for various infringements over the years.
