The Michael C. Rockefeller Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, redesigned by WHY Architecture, is set to reopen to the public after four years of renovation.
The wing now features separate galleries for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Ancient Americas, each with its own unique atmosphere to enhance the visitor experience.
The redesign aims to create a more open and navigable space that allows visitors to appreciate the objects on display and offers clearer sight-lines and transitions between galleries.
The reopening will be celebrated with a day-long public festival on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, featuring live performances, workshops, artist talks, and a public conversation about the redesign led by architect Kulapat Yantrasast and Met Director Max Hollein.
