The 2025 MG 5 range will be reduced to a single, more expensive model named Essence following safety upgrades resulting in a higher three-star ANCAP safety rating.
The previous entry-level Vibe variant will be discontinued, raising the MG 5’s starting price to $32,990 drive-away.
The new trim level aims to compete closely with small sedans from Korea and Japan in terms of pricing.
Safety features for the 2025 MG 5 Essence include lane keep assist, emergency lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and intelligent cruise assist.
The Essence model also gains seatbelt pretensioners for all seats, whiplash-resistant front and rear seats, a seatbelt warning system, and a three-star ANCAP safety rating.
No other equipment changes have been made for the 2025 MG 5 Essence apart from the safety enhancements.
The car retains its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and claimed combined fuel economy of 6.4L/100km.
Standard features on the MG 5 include 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, synthetic leather seat trim, a 360-degree camera, six-speaker audio, and a glass sunroof.
Additionally, the vehicle includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB), 'Sport' tuned stability control, and active corner braking control.
MG Australia offers a 10-year or 250,000km new-car warranty, one of the longest in Australia.
