<ul><li>Microsoft is investing in direct air capture (DAC) to offset its increasing AI emissions.</li><li>To accelerate the development of DAC technology, Microsoft and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) are pre-purchasing 10,000 metric tons of carbon over 10 years from Deep Sky, a DAC project developer.</li><li>Deep Sky is hosting a competition among eight startups in Alberta, Canada, to determine the most efficient DAC approach.</li><li>The project aims to be operational by April and will provide carbon credits to Microsoft and RBC by June.</li></ul>
