Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios executive Matt Booty has confirmed the cancellation of Everwild and the shelving of Perfect Dark reboot, along with the closure of The Initiative studio.
The decision to stop development of these projects and close The Initiative was made in an effort to adjust priorities, focus resources, and set up teams for success within the changing industry landscape.
The Initiative, established in 2018 and co-developing the Perfect Dark reboot, was working on modernizing gameplay mechanics and a fresh narrative for the game.
Microsoft's overall gaming portfolio strategy remains focused on exciting players, growing franchises, and creating new gaming experiences with over 40 projects in active development and a strong slate planned for 2026.
