Microsoft has replaced the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a black background in Windows 11, making it the most noticeable visual update to the crash screen since its introduction.
The black BSOD was initially introduced in early Windows 11 builds but temporarily reverted to blue. With the Windows 11 24H2 update, Microsoft has finalized the switch to black.
Despite the color change, the crash screen's message and function remain the same, offering a sleeker visual experience in alignment with Windows 11's design.
Reports suggest Microsoft may further experiment with the BSOD design, including a possible 'soft-blow' text overlay to guide users after a crash.
