Microsoft is donating $4 billion in cash and technology to schools and non-profits over the next five years as part of its philanthropic mission called Microsoft Elevate.
The initiative aims to provide AI skills and tools to individuals and organizations, helping them thrive in an AI-powered economy. Microsoft will also launch the AI Economy Institute to conduct research on workforce adaptation to AI technology.
The funding will focus on providing AI and cloud credits for K-12 schools and community colleges, with a goal of enabling 20 million people to earn AI credentials. Microsoft is merging its philanthropic organizations to form Elevate and has partnered with educational institutions to promote AI education.
Additionally, Microsoft, along with Anthropic and OpenAI, is founding the National Academy for AI Instruction to train teachers in AI skills. The initiative received $23 million in funding and aims to train 400,000 teachers to enhance teaching and learning.
